We have all been touched by cancer in some way and know it is a dreaded and devastating disease. We are soliciting your support in aiding local people living with cancer. We will be conducting the First Annual Clemmons Stride for Courage 5K road race on June 6th, 2015 in Clemmons to raise funds and awareness for cancer survivors in our area. All proceeds will benefit The Debbie Burchett Endowment Fund at Cancer Services Inc. of Winston-Salem that serves our friends and loved ones who are currently struggling in their battle with cancer. Cancer Services, Inc. is a local non-profit organization serving Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, and Yadkin counties, providing without charge, a full range of services for those living with cancer.
Many organizations champion the cause of cancer research. Some leave a portion of the monies locally, but most fund research groups in large cities. Cancer Services is the only organization of its kind in our area. It serves people in our local area who are struggling with cancer on a daily basis through support groups, educational programs and treatment assistance. The DBEF was originated by a group of friends who were inspired by Debbie’s dedication and service to other people in our area who had cancer. She was involved with many charitable organizations, but none were as dear to her as Cancer Services. She had the opportunity to designate the recipient of DBEF in 2000, before she passed away, and never hesitated to name Cancer Services as the sole benefactor.
Debbie’s motto during the last few years of her life was, “My goal is to make a difference in someone’s life each day”. She did that, by talking one-on-one with cancer patients, starting a cancer support group, and volunteering at Cancer Services and Baptist Hospital Cancer Center. When she learned of the formation of the DBEF, her response was; “With this fund, I can continue to make a difference even after I’m gone”. Many people have received assistance through Cancer Services over the past ten years as a direct result of this fund. Your support can help us to continue making Debbie’s dream a reality.
